Book Review – A Million Miles In A Thousand Years by Donald Miller

A book review of A Million Miles in a Thousand Years by Donald Miller.
_240_360_Book.83.cover This is a book filled with some great stories, sometimes the stories bounced back and forth, but they captivated me. It is the self introspection by Donald Miller, induced by Steve and Ben from Nashville during a process of making Donald’s book “Blue Like Jazz” into movie, that intrigued me to want to read more.

The process that Donald, Ben, and Steve go through to make a movie from a book was something that was a shock to me. This simply explains to me why movies end up so much different from the the books they originate from.

Here are a couple of phrases that got my attention when I read them:
  •  ”Enjoy your place in my story. The beauty of it means you matter, and you can create within it even as I have created you.”
  • ”that great stories got to those who don’t give into fear.”
  • “If we want a feeling of meaning in life, I don't think we have a choice but to live a good story”
All in all this book has driven me to live a better story, without fear. A good story is worthy of being told. Are you living a good story.

It is a good read, worthy of a reread and one I will recommend to friends.

She has an ear infection and probably passed a virus to me. You know how it goes, sharing the love. It figures, I was just thinking last week how relatively healthy the girls and I have been in the past year. We are watching I Love Lucy on The Hallmark Channel.

Project 365: 112 – Go To Work

Comments

112 Today Bethany is going to work with Brenda for TYCTWD. I joked with Bethany when this came up, that she could stay home with me and do laundry, clean house and eat bon-bons infront of the TV. She opted to go with her mother and do some real work. Excuse me, she may feel differently when she has to pack her own lunch do her own laundry and fix dinner for herself. She said with the spunk of her mother and with a little jab from her elbow. So anyways they set off this morning together  for the big city, for a morning of work, lunch at the Church and a tour of Pittsburgh, Brenda style.

Bethany is growing up so fast. What a great opportunity for some female bonding. All three girls thank me often for being home for them, packing their lunches, washing and folding their clothes, cooking in Bethany’s words “good home cooked meals” for dinner. I have said this before, my job may seem thankless at times, but to see the impact I am making in these little girls lives, is gratifying alone. This gig is definitely one of the hardest ones I’ve had but the most rewarding. I would do absolutely anything for these girls in my life again and again and again. I feel so very blessed. God is Good!

Wednesday Weigh In

Comments

Usually I would include a picture, but the cameras are not cooperating tonight. So here goes:

Last week: 178 lbs.

This week: 179 lbs.

Overall loss: 9 lbs.

Let’s just say that I don’t have too much to elaborate on. I’ll just put it this way, the little activity I did, did not burn off enough of what I consumed. It’s all good. Motivation to do more activity and consume less crap…

Thanks for visiting.

Project 107 - Chimney

If you watched my last Family Room (Attic) Renovations video, you will know I talked about coating the chimney one last time with mortar and then trimming round it. Well I am pleased to say that our plans have changed. We decided to install a surround with a raised panel look, and Brenda and I are completely satisfied with it. My brother-in-law is amazing. I need to finish with some corner trim and of course paint.

Question: Should I paint it all the wall color, or should I accent the picture frame like surrounds with our trim color?

So this is photo 100, I believe this may be a good time to reflect with a slide show. I will try to get one posted later today. Thanks for visiting and have a great weekend!

God, is that you?

Have you ever felt the presence of God?

In the past several weeks, I have and it feels oh so good.

During a sermon our pastor  concluded his sermon with this video:

Towards the end the whole congregation joined in and sang along. I suddenly became choked up. My lips moved but nothing came out. Tears began to roll down my face. Goose bumps came over me. I knew at that moment that the Holy Spirit was among us. It is a feeling that I will never forget.

This past Easter Sunday I experienced it again, not quite as strong but I was choked up enough, that again my lips were moving but nothing was coming out, during the sunrise service on the boardwalk.

I could of easily passed this off as just an emotional moment. It was the overwhelming sensation that pointed to Him.

Do you ever get this kind of feeling? If so, when, where and how often does it happen?

Thanks for visiting and contributing if you feel inclined to do so.

180

Last weeks weight: 181.5

Overall total weight loss: 8 lbs.

Wow. I guess all of the walking and riding bikes really did help while we were on vacation. I'm going to continue with what I have been doing, minus the Thrasher's French Fries and Deep Fried Oreos of course. With the weather being so nice, I plan implementing some more walking also. Overall I am slightly surprised that I lost weight this time around. It's a great feeling. Thanks for all of the encouragment you all have given me.

Project 365: 95 - Banana Bike

Yesterday we went to the sunrise service on the boardwalk. It was foggy but it was a very good service. Good music, Good message and great turn out. Brenda and I also took each of the girls individually out for around an hour for some alone time then we swapped girls. I like to do this when we have the opportunity to, because it changes the dynamic and allows us to focus on them, one on one.

This is what Bridget chose to do, ride the banana bikes on the boardwalk. What a blast! It took a little while for us to get used to them, but once we did we were cruising together side by side while soaking up some vitamin d rich sunshine…After the swap Bethany and I walked the beach together and played in the sand and ocean. We had a great time. Yesterday was our last entire day here in Ocean City. I feel this was a necessary break in the daily routine of our lives. We had the time of our life, thanks to awesome friends. We leave today a little sad, but refreshed and remembering this great mini vacation. Thanks for journeying along with us. Have a blessed week.

I am hoping that the walking up and down the beach is counter-acting all of the Thrasher's French Fries and Deep Fried Oreos I have been eating. We will see what happens on Wednesday. Happy Easter to all three the readers of this little blog of mine.

Project 365: 93 - Blue Moon

Blue Moon in a Bad Ass Cafe` cup. While our friends took the girls to Tony’s Pizza for dinner then to play some arcade games afterwards, Brenda and I went out for a date, we ended up on the boardwalk at the Bad Ass Cafe`. On our way back from dinner we stopped at a stand and split an order of deep fried Oreos. Wow, were they good. We are having the time of our lives, the girls are absolutely enjoying every moment here. We are going to look for a Sunrise Service on the beach for tomorrow morning.

Thanks for visiting and have a blessed day and Easter Sunday.

I actually have been so busy getting ready for this trip I forgot yesterday to do the weight in. In fear of Brad Gross calling me out for skipping a weigh in, I did this morning. I’m glad I did…
181.5
6.5 lbs total. I like what I’m seeing, what I’m feeling, and what I’m doing. I don’t have time to elaborate, I have to go pack the van so we can get out of dodge. If I get all caught up in this mini vacation and don’t get to post on here, everyone have a blessed and safe Easter!
