A Church Adventure: Restoring Hardware

Several months back I was restoring some old hardware that was in our house. Some portions of them had rust and others had several coats of paint on them. It is a tedious process of wire brushing and scraping, but with time and patience they all come completely clean and then are ready for a fresh coat of paint.  This reminded me of my faith walk with Jesus. I get through the day and inevitably I collect junk of this world, whether it be some cynicism, self doubt, or even the simple negative thought. I, as a follower and believer in Christ have to be willing to be stripped of all that junk and allow him to fill me with the Holy Spirit, let go of control and give it to Him. I struggle with many parts of this process, but often find that when I surround myself with fellow believers His will overcomes all of my struggles. I especially feel this balance when I am worshipping or in fellowship with our current group of congregants at our little Church in Mars.

We, as a congregation, are going through some pretty heavy stuff right now; decisions that will affect our community and our future of worship. But, I am looking up, along with my fellow followers and believers. In some of my previous Church Adventure posts I mentioned a few things, in short, to describe this campus. The building was mentioned in my description to set the story. But, the real part was that we felt comfortable and that comfort level had us returning for more. God led the four of us to be all in and to join this little Church in Mars. This was no accident. This was purposefully and perfectly orchestrated by God himself through God-led people. It had little to do with the "Building". Don't get me wrong, it has some great acoustics and great character for a worship setting. And yes, the Holy Spirit fills that space every Saturday night as we focus on Him through worship. But, it is still just a building. This wonderful event of worship, fellowship, and God-led relationships can happen anywhere. Our Church has no walls, it's built of people! He designed it this way. The great thing about the Holy Spirit, is that it has no limits. It will not be contained by walls.

As of August 25th, the parent church of our little church will no longer be supporting a multi-site ministry. Which means, that the Mars Campus will be closing. We, as a family, will be distancing ourselves from this particular Church as it has quite a different view on what a church should look and operate like. Its boards, and committees have unfortunately centered their focus on the wrong things, and have brought heartache in their wake. Please hear this; there are good people at the parent campus, and these fine people of God are not being listened to by leadership. Many of them, I fear, are just so busy checking their boxes on Sunday morning or just have their head so far stuck in the sand, that they can't hear the cries of their people.  I have been praying for the parent "Church"; that the leadership will someday hear the God-led people and stand up and make sure that God's agenda is pursued instead of man’s. Sunday mornings are not supposed to feel like a country club, and until they understand that and start listening and looking for God's lead, they will just be turning their wheels within their own walls.

Our group at the Mars Campus have had a few things to consider, as things have been winding down. We are now at a point of figuring out where we will go next. I do believe, that this adversity has strengthened our relationships as a worshiping body of Christ. It would be amazing if we could all end up in the same place, to worship again together. I also know that if we can't continue what we have been blessed with, I will never forget the relationships that we have developed with God's intentions. With God's direction, we have had several opportunities to visit some local churches, and even to discuss what we have gone through during this painful process. I know that we all have been very grateful. It is refreshing for me to just get things off of my chest when things are feeling negative.

These past months have been, at times, exhausting. But, at the same time, I think we have all come to the agreement that we may not know what the future holds for us, but if we strip off all of this junk that we have been collecting (especially through this process) and allow Him to fill us with the Holy Spirit once again, in His hands we will all prevail to come closer to Him, and to spread the Good News.

How have you seen God at work in our marriage???

**Tissue Alert
I found this on Godtube.com this morning.
I love Ian’s take on the question in the title bar- “a better question would be: how have I not seen Him at work in my marriage”
Watch it…

I know for a fact, He is at work in our marriage, Brenda puts up with me and my quirkiness, daily!!!
I love you, Brenda!
How have you seen God work in your marriage?
Go read Ian and Larissa Murphy’s blog at  http://prayforian.blogspot.com/ which looks like will be sending you to http://www.ianandlarissa.com/ soon if it already isn't. What a wonderful message this couple is sharing. Blessings to them and prayers offered up for Ian’s continued healing.

Saturday #Selfie: Emotional Rollercoaster

This is a collage of selfies I would have taken this week but I was too busy searching for a dog. It has been a roller coaster of emotions…if you follow me anywhere in the social media arena, you know that I was dog watching Lindy and Sammy at the beginning of the week, and that one of the dogs I was watching escaped from our compound. Lindy is a sweet, gentle and loving dog, that decided to go on an adventure, without us. Lindy and Sammy belong to my mother-in-law. My in-laws and I have a relationship so far from typical, I often loose site of that fact. This event reminded me of how blessed we are. As we searched the neighborhoods and countryside around our dwelling, and we explained how I lost my mother-in-laws dog, the reaction of most of our community was quite amusing. A recap: I was better off dead, there is room in the dog house, I was being written out of the will, no-one wanted to wear my shoes…
When my Mother-in-law, returned and we were in the middle of the search her comforting words were simple, “I wish this hadn't happened to you.”  It still ate me up, after all it happened on my watch. During the first few hours of her escape, we spotted her twice. She stopped as she heard us call her name, and then ran in the complete opposite direction, It would have surprised me if she would of come to us without my mother-in-law calling her, she was still traveling. We then went a long 24 hours of not seeing her at all. Then 36 hours later, with a tip from Facebook of a sighting, we set out to search for her, with my mother-in-law this time. Searching until our eyes could not see in the dark of night, we traveled home and on the last leg of our road, there she was and she actually came to the arms of my mother-in-law…Thank You, God!!
Lindy, you scared me, you angered me, you filled me with anxiety, you humored me(we kept joking that you took up residence with one of the many herds of deer in our area), you provoked thought in this stubborn mind of mine, you made me cry(like a big baby), all of this and you probably had a blast!!!

I(We) prayed and He answered.

Lindy, I will not speak for anyone else, but I would do it all over again, if your mom will let you out of her sight.

Next time I promise to take you for a walk, you won’t have to make a go of it, on your own.

Christmas list for Lindy, Check!!!
Garmin GPS Dog Tracker

My lesson for the week for this stubborn mind of mine.
Have Faith, and Pray, He is listening!!!

Thanks for helping find Lindy. Whether you just kept your eyes open around your dwelling or while driving the roads of Western PA, or you shared the information on any of my numerous social media platforms. The Facebook tip is what got us out looking when we found her.

Thanks for visiting my blog, have a blessed weekend!!

Goodbye Romy…

We did not plan on having to take Romy to an Emergency Animal Hospital last night. But we did.
We did not expect to get bad news when the doctor explained her findings. But we did.
We did not plan on our Awesome Dog Romy having to stay the night at the hospital. But she did.
We did not plan on how different the house was, without her bedtime and morning routine. But it was.
We did not plan on how empty our bed felt without her snuggled into one of us during the night. But it was.
We did not plan on more bad news this morning that the meds really had not improved our outlook for our poor Romy girl. It hurt, to the bone.
We did not plan on us having to say goodbye, so early, to such an awesome dog. But, we will this afternoon.
We can not plan on how we will console our little girls hearts when they break because their best friend is gone. But we will do our best, with God’s help.
We did not plan on missing you so soon, Romy. But, We do and will forever.
These are some things we did not plan, but God did.
It’s all his plan.
We just have to recognize it.
Even when it breaks our hearts.
It’s all his plan.
Oh how appropriate, after reading Plan B by Pete Wilson.
This truly has been one of the hardest decisions we have had to make.
Please continue to pray for us.

God, is that you?

Have you ever felt the presence of God?

In the past several weeks, I have and it feels oh so good.

During a sermon our pastor  concluded his sermon with this video:

Towards the end the whole congregation joined in and sang along. I suddenly became choked up. My lips moved but nothing came out. Tears began to roll down my face. Goose bumps came over me. I knew at that moment that the Holy Spirit was among us. It is a feeling that I will never forget.

This past Easter Sunday I experienced it again, not quite as strong but I was choked up enough, that again my lips were moving but nothing was coming out, during the sunrise service on the boardwalk.

I could of easily passed this off as just an emotional moment. It was the overwhelming sensation that pointed to Him.

Do you ever get this kind of feeling? If so, when, where and how often does it happen?

Thanks for visiting and contributing if you feel inclined to do so.

I’m Singing

I saw this over at Aaron’s Blog Arms Wide Open. Aaron just lost his mother three weeks ago and a friend of his just lost a family member to cancer.
Together lets lift up my friend Aaron, his friend and anyone else grieving from the loss of a loved one in prayer.
This is a great song and video from Kari Jobe. Keep Singing God’s Glory!!

God is Still God

** Tissue Alert**
I saw this over at Jon Acuff’s blog Stuff Christians Like and at Carlos Whittakerls blog Ragamuffin Soul. Its origin is from NewSpring Church.
This just moved me…My hope is that it moves you also.

It’s Just a Game

Well, we have reached a little more that half way through our summer break. We have been blessed with an awesome season of camping, swimming and just hanging out. I look back and think of some of the camping trips we have had and one in particular stands out. When we returned from the trip that overlapped the finals of the Stanley Cup, several people said to us, “we laughed when we realized you were away camping without a good way to follow the games”. Really?
Here are some before I go off a little:
  • All members of our household watch most Penguins and Steelers games.
  • All members of our household get pretty rowdy during Penguins and Steelers games.
  • If we are here and a game is on, we are engaged in it
  • Games trump even Hannah Montana and Jonas Brothers without much said.
  • We pretty much bleed black and gold. (Go Pens…..Go Steelers….)
It’s just a game though.
I do not regret missing in entirety, game seven of the Stanley Cup Finals. I would not, in my lifetime, give up just any of quality time with my family, for a game. I forever will love the moments spent as a family unit. I cherish my wife, these precious little girls, and opportunities to meet new people and share God’s Love. We did just that on the night of game 7. We met a great couple that we hope to connect with on some future camping trips.

Don’t get me wrong, I love to watch the Pens play, and I think it is awesome that they won the Cup. But I do not regret not watching it.  It was just another game with a big trophy at the end.

I feel God has been surrounding me with living proof, that we need to embrace the people around us. Take time to talk to and listen to friends, family and even strangers. I have been making an extra effort to listen more, to insert sarcasm less, to encourage, not discourage and to go outside the comfort zone. The positive feeling I have experienced is a blessing. It brings me a sense of peace.

Okay, I am done ranting. This just had been weighing on my mind. I’ve been meaning to write about it, but just had not had any time. I know my writing skills are not the best, but the more I do it, the better it will get. Right? Thanks for enduring.

Thanks for reading and have a blessed weekend.
