Movie Review: Abel’s Field

abelsfield_300x250banner

Yesterday, the family and I were fortunate enough to be given an opportunity to review an outstanding movie. It is called Abel’s Field. The story line has at least one key element that I can identify with, Seth as a young man attempting to take care of and provide for his younger sisters is also trying to finish high school and navigate a house foreclosure, all at age 17/18. All of this and he won’t ask anyone for help.

I find myself in situations at times, where I should probably ask for help but don’t. I’m not sure if it’s my pride or just my ignorance. Identifying with the loss that Seth has endured in this movie, is a challenge for me. I often wonder how will I handle adversity or loss as it comes along. I pray that I have the peace of my Savior and my Lord, in my heart, mind and soul, to assist me in relying on Him.

In the movie, Seth avoids asking God for help, because of a previous prayer he felt had gone unanswered. Whether Seth realized it or not, God’s plan was in place and he was undoubtedly part of it for a reason.

This movie reminds me that God has a plan, that is sometimes very hard to recognize or understand. We just need to open up and communicate with him. A quote from our Pastor Jim is in order, “It’s all about the relationship we have with God.” He is always there for us, but often, (speaking for myself) I am too stubborn to even hear His calling or to see His plan, which ultimately makes me blind to understanding it. Something to think about and to work on.

I would, without hesitation, encourage anyone to watch this movie. It’s a good one.

Thanks for taking the time to read the review and visit my blog.

What’s a good movie you have watched recently?

About Abel's Field:

Left motherless by tragedy and abandoned by his father, high school senior Seth McArdle (Samuel Davis) faces enormous pressure as he strives to support his little sisters. At school, he endures the daily bullying of the football team. But fighting back only finds him singled out for punishment and assigned to an after-school work detail under the supervision of the reserved groundskeeper, Abel (SOUL SURFER’S Kevin Sorbo). Much to his surprise, Seth discovers that Abel may be the only one who truly understands his struggles. As dark times lure Seth toward desperate measures, the reluctant Abel may be the one person who can point him back toward the light.

Movie Review: The Woodcarver

Yesterday, the family and I sat and watched The Woodcarver. Starring John Ratzenberger as Ernest in this good movie that is centered around a troubled kid with a broken relationship with his parents in the midst of a separation and looming divorce and Ernest who is resentful for losing his son and his wife earlier in life. It’s focus is Restoring their faith in God and in Life. It has a powerful message that has numerous points of resolve. I do recommend this movie to all, the whole family enjoyed it. The Hill Family gives it four thumbs up!
My favorite line in the movie:
"You can either lend a hand or get out of the way, I'm pretty sure I know what choice Jesus would make."

Movie Review: A Mile in His Shoes

277067_270101973014772_1499470426_n
Before I get into the review of this movie, let me explain how we decide as a family whether we want to review a product or a movie on my blog. If it is a movie, I will  switch the output of my desktop pc to our TV and we will watch the preview. We then take a vote.
This movie was no different, but it did not catch everyone’s attention in the same fashion. Our oldest was not all enthusiastic about watching the film, but it was three against one. We don’t force this stuff, she was allowed and capable of doing what she does on her iPod while we watched or could go to her room and read a book. Apparently it got her attention pretty quickly. She watched it in entirety, and when it was finished she said, “It was a good movie”.
All in all, we liked this movie, and would recommend it to a friend..
From the director of "Angels In the Outfield" comes an inspiring story about a special boy with an amazing gift, and the coach who believed. Dean Cain and Luke Schroder  star in the gmc movie based on the book "The Legend of Mickey Tussler". It has a good story line, and has great situational resolve. Our family enjoyed it’s message and would like to offer you a chance to win a copy.
You have until next Wednesday, January 25th at Noon EST, to enter a comment here on my blog for your chance to win a copy of this great family movie. Don’t forget to leave an email address so I have a way of obtaining your mailing address.
I will pull a name from a hat, (if need be) to choose the winner. I state that because last contest I did, there was only one participant and she won with out a drawing needed. So come on, I know I have a handful of readers, leave a comment.
Here is more information on the web about this film:

    Movie Review: The Shunning

Recently as a family we had watched the trailer for The Shunning on other movies we rented and were reviewing. The entire family mentioned that it looked good and we should rent it, so we were delighted when the opportunity came along to review it for ourselves.

The Shunning is an inspiring movie, the storyline was great. Go check out the trailer below and the links provided below that as well.

We recommend this movie to all.

Beverly Lewis' The Shunning - About the Movie

Unfortunately, that daughter, Katie Lapp, is a member of the Amish order. Katie is about to be married, but uneasy about the path ahead.  Now she discovers the secret her parents have kept from her: she's adopted.

The film is based on the celebrated first novel of the best-selling "The Heritage of Lancaster County" book series from author Beverly Lewis. Stars Danielle Panabaker & Sherry Stringfield.

BEVERLY LEWIS - Author of "The Shunning"

Beverly Lewis, born in the heart of Pennsylvania Dutch country, is The New York Times bestselling author of more than eighty books.  Her stories have been published in eleven languages worldwide.  A keen interest in her mother's Plain heritage has inspired Lewis to write many Amish-related novels, beginning with "The Shunning," which has sold more than one million copies.  In 2007, Lewis' "The Brethren" was honored with a Christy Award.

    Movie Review: The Grace Card

    tgc

This week we were given the opportunity to review a DVD. A movie called The Grace Card, a compelling story, of a man, mad at the world and God for a tragic accident which killed his first born son. Mac, became a cop in attempt to prevent another tragedy from happening. With his faith challenged, his relationships falling apart and his career at a stand still, he is faced with the unimaginable, more challenges. He is shown grace in such an astounding way, that this very grace leads him to do the same in the end.

I give this movie 4 thumbs up out of 5, and would recommend it.

Movie Review - Field of Vision

    fov_web_poster

That’s right, Walmart and P&G will be at it again on NBC this Saturday June 11th at 8PM/7PM central with there Family Movie Night. During Family Movie Night, you can be confident that the programming on their screens will be fun and action-packed, without the worry of having to dive for the remote to change the channel when inappropriate ads or other content comes on. Soundtracks for the films also feature top producers and artists. The day after airing, a special 2-disc DVD/CD bonus pack will be available for purchase exclusively through Walmart.  This movie is starring: Faith Ford, Tony Oller, Joseph Adler, Alyssa Shafer and Philip Casnoff.

Our Review: As a family, we watched the directors cut of this movie last night. I would say the overall rating was an 8 out of 10. It was definitely family friendly and told a wonderful story line. The challenges of standing up for what is right and maybe not popular is such an important point to make in today’s world. I would recommend this movie to any family. I enjoyed the reunion towards the end of the movie, Bethany thought it was a good family movie, and Brenda stated that the movie left her wanting more at the ending. Bridget’s remarks, are not to be counted in this review, (if you know our family you know the end of this story, if not, Bridget is good at falling a sleep as bedtime approaches. Almost every night we have to wake her to put her in bed.) She lasted all of 20 minutes into the movie. That in no way reflects the quality of the movie, nothing stops her when she gets tired…

So if you do only one thing this weekend, watch Field of Vision this Saturday, tomorrow on NBC at 8pm/7pm central.
