A Church Adventure: Week 22

This was a camping week and once again God protected us during a nasty storm once again. We got all set up in the extreme heat on Friday and the skies got darker and everyone started to look at their droids. The weather on my phone was just able to shoe me that there was warning for where I thought we were that included dangerous cloud to ground lighting, hail and strong winds. Well we hunkered down in Brenda’s Aunt and Uncle’s camper while we waited out the storm. Their camper was rocking back and forth with the winds, which meant ours had to be bouncing around or at least I bet it felt like it if we would have been in it. We survived along with all of our equipment. But found out there was a canopy and camper destroyed by falling limbs and there were two people that got tingled a bit when they were holding down their tents during the lighting strikes that were close. No one was seriously injured, because God loves campers and everyone else too. PTL!! The storm brought in some cooler air that made the first night’s sleep in no AC, bearable.
A quick note about this adventure, I noticed that by the calendar I should be on Week 23, apparently I missed a week. I will take a look and when I figure out if I just a missed a hooky week or an actual visit to a church I will make an entry to make things right…

Robert Pierre Cd Winner

Congratulations to 1Pokinatcha, the winner of the Robert Pierre Cd Winner.

I know I mentioned I would pull the winner from a hat with the girls help, but there was only one entry and that just would of been silly!

Random: Time Just Keeps Flying By

Brenda and I were purging some stuff from our basement and from our garages and came across these little things:

I really have a hard time with the fact the girls are so grown up. I can’t believe these fit my girls at one point…

Random: Morning View

This is my view this morning in the camper. The girls woke me up at 10 minutes 'til 8:00. Now that is what I'm talking about, I needed to sleep in like that.. They then let the dog out, brushed their teeth and let the dog back in and told us they were going fishing...

That my friends is a great start to a long camping weekend.
Have a great Saturday.

Random: No Complaints...

I will not be complaining. I remember when this past winter we struggled to get into the double digits...I just wish it was a dry heat, I just went through shirt number 3.

The girls just left for camp with Brenda's Aunt & Uncle. We leave tomorrow afternoon. Yes it will be HOT, but I'm ok with that. I did pack lots of shirts and if you come to camp, you will probably find me swimming or looking like I just did with shirt and all.

I hope everone has a blessed weekend.

Music Review/CD Giveaway: Robert Pierre – I’m All In

 I'm All In

Back in May I was given the opportunity to preview for review, four songs from Robert Pierre. This week I received Robert’s full new cd in the mail, again a preview for my review. The cd is called I’m All In, it will hit stores on July 26th and it is outstanding. My favorite songs so far are I’m All In, Be Lifted Up and Greater Is He with the tracks in between being good music and great messages as well.

Here are the lyrics from Robert’s first track, I’m All In:

There is a fire that burns inside of me
There is a flood rushing from my heart
There is a song that I have got to sing
I'm alive and this just the start
I'm all in, I'm all in
Your love is overwhelming
I'm all in, I'm all in
You are all consuming
You are the peace that lives inside of me
You are the joy filling up my heart
You are the love that makes me wanna sing
I'm alive and this is just the start
I'm all in, I'm all in
Your love is overwhelming
I'm all in, I'm all in
You are all consuming
Lord, I give You everything
I give You part of me
Lord, I give You everything
I give it all for Your glory

A little about Robert:

For Robert, I’m All In is more than the name of his third studio album, due July 26 from thinkaboutit records. It has become Robert’s life  motto as he responds to God’s calling to live fully committed to Him.  In addition to writing and recording I’m All In and playing on a summer tour, Robert also leads regular Sunday morning worship at his 800-member Orlando, FL church. And he’s done it all as a high school senior.

“All of the songs have something to do with things I was going through my senior year,” Robert said of I’m All In, “preparing to say goodbye to friends and not really knowing what would come next, but finding comfort and peace in the Lord’s plan for my life. The Bible talks about how the eyes of the Lord are searching to and fro throughout the earth, searching for someone whose heart is wholly His, someone He can strongly support. This CD is me saying, ‘I’m all in.’”

Creating I’m All In was a powerfully personal experience for Robert, who teamed with veteran songwriter Jason Ingram (Tenth Avenue North, Sanctus Real, Bebo Norman) and legendary producer Matt Bronleewe (Jars of Clay, Michael W. Smith, Steven Curtis Chapman) on the album. The result is a collection of songs that enthusiastically and energetically worship God while wrestling with what it means to be a Christian in a world full of difficulty and joy, anxiety and excitement.

Not only have I received this cd for review, but I have one to give away as well. Just enter a comment on this post and you will be entered in the giveaway. I will have my girls assist me in picking a winner from a hat on Friday, July 29th. Just click on the “comment here” or “comments” button above to the right of the date of this post. It’s pretty simple, just include an email address, twitter handle or another way I can contact you, for proper delivery of cd.

A Church Adventure: Week 21

For week 21 of our Church Adventure we attended a contemporary service of a United Methodist church and it was a very nice visit. They actually held two weeks of VBS and our visit fell right in the middle of them. It was nice to hear the familiar songs of the same VBS we did over at VPC. I teased the girls and tried to get them up on the stage to sing and do the moves, but they did not take me up on my offer. The music (all songs we have heard on Klove radio), was good and the message was as well. This coming week (22) of our adventure we will be doing some camp devotions on our own and enjoying some hot relaxation in our zero gravity chairs.

Week 3 & 4 of Summer ‘11

To finish up week 3, we took in a trip to Pittsburgh Mills. I was surprised at how many of vacancies there were in the mall. It reminded me of the Butler Mall back in the day when it was obviously not doing well. It was still nice to wander around and see some of the specialty stores that you don’t see when shopping the big discount stores. This is one store we have never been to, a Sears Grand:

Brenda said it smelled like a Kmart, we all thought that was funny seeing as the stores merged a couple of years ago…
This week has been kind of dull, cleaning and laundry has been accomplished since our van(the gas guzzlin’ pig) is in for warranty repairs. We hope to get to the pool tomorrow, but that will only happen if we get the van back. We are going to Kennywood on Thursday and to the Rogers Flea Market on Friday. This weekend will probably consist of cleaning the basement some more and rearranging some stuff in the house, to prepare for the next phase in our renovations, plumbing for our 1st floor powder room and 2nd floor master bathroom. Next week we will be enjoying the pool while preparing for our next camping trip.

A Church Adventure: Week 20

For week 20, I have to admit that I had a week moment. We were recruited to help put a roof and soffit and fascia on a garage addition of my mother in law’s, and Brenda and I figured that we would probably be tied up on both Saturday and Sunday. When we were on a break from the roof in almost 90 degree temperatures, and it appeared that we were going to be able to wrap things up in one day, I was asked by someone(some little someone) if we were going to church. Later I find out that it was one of the girls that asked me the question. I don’t really remember the conversation, it must have been the heat….
Needless to say in that said, weak moment, I mentioned that we probably would not go to church. I felt a little guilty Sunday morning, but we needed some rest and the family time we spent together was as always a great time. We spent a good part of the day at Pittsburgh Mills in the Air Conditioning.

A Church Adventure: Week 19

This week we did not get to a church. We took the kid less weekend, thanks to Lori, my mother in law, and enjoyed spending some quality time together, antiquing, just the two of us. It was a fantastic time, but we are looking forward to going to a church this weekend as a complete family unit.

A Church Adventure: Week 18

Week 18 we attended our home church, VPC. It was Vacation Bible School Sunday. The kids preformed the songs and motions in front of the congregation and the directors did a great job navigating us through the different messages of the songs. It was great to see our church family again. We are enjoying this adventure we have been on, but miss our church family! It was great to see how many kids that aren’t members of the church show up.

What a great week!

Days 19, 20 & 21 of Summer ‘11: An Antique Adventure

Saturday, on day nineteen of the Summer of 2011, the girls were spending a couple of nights with Brenda’s mom, Lori. We were childless for some 24 hours plus. We had a great time with friends on Saturday night, they invited us for a cook out and to hang out by a campfire. We woke up on Sunday and started to plot out an Antique Adventure. We have been looking for a secretary’s desk for months now, but our search was limited. The girls can only handle about one trip to antique shops per month, and I can’t blame them. They get pretty tired of me saying don’t touch, don’t move, don’t brea….you get my point.
Our adventure, including bringing Georgie, started out in Harrisville, (for those that are new to my blog or to those who aren’t paying any attention, this is the town we owned and lived in our first house together.) That store was closed, we were 1 hour early according to the hours posted on the door of said establishment. Brenda and I both wish stores like this would update their information on their websites. We continued due north to Barkeyville and found a small establishment of some neat items but not a whole lot of furniture. Continuing north and a smidge east, we traveled to Franklin to find a pretty cool looking store closed on Sundays…this was not a stellar start, but it was a great day to take a drive. Being we were 1 for 3, we decided to head east to Oil City, to attempt the Oil City Antique Warehouse Mall, we had no information on hours but it was only 8 miles away and we were heading eastwards to go to Fryburg anyways. Fryburg is just south west of Lickingville. Oh, the names you see when you get out in the sticks/country of Pennsylvania. I love where we live.
So back to the Oil City Antique Warehouse Mall, what an awesome place, it was open and it was huge. As we drove up to it, we both said the location looked a little sketchy, but once inside, what a find. The first floor was entirely antiques or older used furniture and collectables and then most of the second floor was new furniture. They actually were displaying four or five different secretary’s desks. A couple of them seemed to be reproduction pieces, with the old look but not the old construction style we desire. We decided we would not make a hasty decision and would continue with the adventure as we could always back track or return on another day. Our next visit was The Fryburg Old Treasures Depot. One secretary's desk was to be found there, and they were having a sale for the holiday weekend. Upon further inspection it appeared that it had been repaired and the quality of the repair was questionable, it’s price was also at the ceiling of what we were looking to spend. But the store had some great pieces and lots of collectables. It was another store we will probably revisit in the future.
We continued south into Clarion and visited a store that we won’t return to ever again. We entered this store and there was a secretary’s desk staring right at us, but it had a bunch of yarn wrapped around it with a price tag of $3500 on it. It was a very nice piece and probably worth the money, but not in our price range, actually not even close. It also had a big sign that said do not open, do not touch, well for me that was like putting up a sign that stated “you are not welcome”. If we only knew what was going to transpire next, we probably would have avoided going that far east. As we walked five steps into the store this gentleman kindly approached Brenda and asked if she would relinquish her hand bag (when I say hand bag, it’s tiny, she can’t even fit my sunglasses in it), or go leave it in the car before we entered the store. I turned around and headed for the car, that sealed the deal. I was not welcome and neither was my wife. You don’t have to tell me twice. Goodbye. As we left the building,  A lady, (part owner, spouse of said man????) heard our conversation, I told Brenda, “I was not entering the store, she could if she wanted to, that I would take her purse and be in the van waiting for her.” The lady then asked me “You don’t understand?" I ignored the lady’s question and continued to talk to Brenda whom was far more understanding than myself at this point. The lady chimed in “you don’t understand, we have lost over $20,000 in merchandise in the 30 days due to theft.” As I typically have a ton of empathy and  go to great lengths to avoid conflict, obviously this was not a typical day for me. This really struck a nerve, Brenda stood there with an open mouth, she could not believe what was happening.  Brenda agreed with me or at least did not want it to escalate any more than it already did. We left, and as we did so the lady was livid, she kept talking to us, with a look that could put a strong man ten feet under. I am not proud of how I acted, I am a bit ashamed, I know I embarrassed Brenda tremendously and I am glad the girls were not there to see my actions, but looking back I don’t think I was disrespectful, I did not raise my voice, in fact I ignored the lady’s statements, except for stating the obvious, “I don’t feel welcome in your establishment.”
Wow, my heart reached palpitation just typing and reliving that, I’m still searching for why that strikes such a nerve???
I’m sure God planned it all, to teach me something, my thick skull is still processing it.
We continued from there the whole way to Brookville to find a dirty old place, that lacked organization and a retail atmosphere. It was hard to distinguish who were dealers and who were customers. We didn't find anything we liked there anyways.
We then headed back to the west in hopes to find the Harrisville store open. On our way we stopped at a store in Emlenton but found lots of vintage stuff and crafts, not really what I would call antiques. We made it to Harrisville before the posted closing time to find it closed. That was a little frustrating, but we still had a good overall day.
We arrived home and had time to rest and make home made Philly Steak subs, then we were off to Hartwood Acres for a free concert by the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra and what I thought I read as Fireworks afterwards. Next time I may have to call to confirm. It was a nice concert, but not really our taste. I admit I was mostly wanting to see the Fireworks. Oh well, we did see some as they were shot off for Hampton Community Park, which were not that far away.
Sunday we woke up and planned day two of our Antique Adventure. This trip was not going to be as long, we would travel over to Wexford, Harmony, Volant, and on to Mercer and Hermitage. We only found two shops to be open, but again it was a great day for a drive and Brenda and I enjoyed each other's company. One was in Volant and it was nice, it offered more collectables then furniture but had several buildings to peruse through. The last one we visited was The T.J. Haaland & Co. Antiques inside the Shenango Valley Mall and was the place we found the one.
10+ hours, 300+ miles, lots of laughs with the woman I love, and this mission is complete for now. We had not laid eyes on a desk like this in all that we have looked at. Keep in mind, we wanted a small piece of furniture to stash away important mail an other things as they enter our home, while blending well with the period of our home.
For those of you that have stuck it out and read all of this, thank you.
Here are some pictures of the new/used desk.

Happy Anniversary, Brenda!

Brenda and I celebrate 16 years today and this weekend. I am so blessed to have you in my life, Brenda. It’s been a wonderful 19 years. Who would of thought God’s plans would have put us together in the middle of Butler on main street almost 20 years ago. Me studying in my bare feet on a bench and you cruising with your little brother. I love His plans, it’s been an absolutely awesome ride we have been on together. Thank for all that you do for our family, you are the hardest working woman in the world, and I love you for that! Here’s is to many more blessings and a lifetime to enjoy them together.

Thank You God, we owe it all to you!!
